Fat Tuesday
TODAY is Shrove Tuesday....
Wednesday the beginning of Lent
The terms "Mardi Gras" (pronounced /ˈmɑrdi grɑː/, "Mardi Gras season", and "Carnival season", in English, refer to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after the Epiphany and ending on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday" (in ethnic English tradition, Shrove Tuesday), referring to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which started on Ash Wednesday.
One year in our travelin' days we happened to be in San Luis Obispo for Mardi Gras.
The college town really put on a parade where the people all dressed up in costumes and from the floats threw necklaces to the crowd. We caught quite a few. Later we went over to the campus for a choral production put on by the different choirs and singing groups.
FANTASTIC!!!!

a senior experience...
Today was a day to run errands....hair, pick up RX at Kaiser and deposit books and magazines at the Senior Center in Willow Glen. While we were there we said what the heck lets see if we can have lunch. And we did. Pretty good for $2.50 each. Breaded sole, rice and spinach , bean salad, milk and apricots. They had just hired a new chef and they served on real china not paper plates like they used to.
The people we sat next to were interesting. The gal next to me was a retired nurse, also was interested in genealogy and took a course there at the center just like I did....however not same year or teacher. The guy next to dad was Hispanic and owned property in Morgan Hill which was in limbo because of city laws and taxes.

pictures from the cabin...
El Presidente Bob, Dan and Austin spent the weekend at the cabin Jan 29-30-31. No mention of work but fun things like walking at the lake and target practice.

A club meeting on Sunday...
"The lake most likely won't get dredged this year but they're thinking about an assessment of $300 per cabin to help defray the $60K expense to do so.
Somebody lit a campfire down by the lake last June. People were angry but the guilty have not been found or punished.
Somebody with an illegal gate card has been cruising around in the club. They are going to purge the unused gate cards in the next coming weeks, stay tuned for details.
The wooden box by our driveway is part of the firefighting water backup supply. It doubles our capacity for water supply given the tanks installed above Rocky's cabin. Additionally, the water from the new well doesn't need chlorification.
Paul Ingram is retiring as Secretary. If we want a list of recent cabin sales we need to send him an email to ask for the document. He'll stay on and take care of cabin transfers and sales. I delegate Dan to send him an email asking for the docs.
Bill Dorey kicked in $5k to help pay for the road repairs. It will get slurried this spring. Ran out of time last year due to the rain and they didn't want to take a chance on it raining then having the runoff go into the creek.
Rocky says there is a fiber link at Rancho San Carlos and that we should be able to get DSL through ATT. I delegate Fred to explore this.
We need toilet paper and paper plates. Also need some warm white CFL bulbs, like the 75 watt variety.
The upstair sink is leaking badly and I don't know where it's coming from. A bucket didn't help. We should replace the hardware next time we're there. Hopefully it's pretty simple.
2 ea 1/2" angle stops
2 ea hoses
2 spigots
1 ea drain
1 ea P trap
There were 8 toothbrushes in the shower. Some of them were getting moldy so I took them out and dunked them in a jar with bleach in the kitchen.

Danny has pics, maybe he'll send them to Mom. We had a good time. Went to the shooting range and killed a bunch of cans and old eggs. Austin learned how to shoot. Dan wants to sell the canoe on Craigslist and get a dinghy for the lake. I said okeedokee. We'll need to figure out a roof for the wood rack. How much more of the green metal do you have, Fred?
B"

someone threw a chair in the lake
and I guess Austin braved the elements and tried to go get it out....brrrrrrr....
