On the morning of December 7, 1941, Japanese forces attacked the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The surprise attack destroyed much of the United States' fleet, especially the battleships.
In 1941 I was in high school at Santa Maria CA where there were many Japanese students. It was such a shock when our friends were relocated to camps for the duration of the war.
