the Divine pruning...


This is a supposedly evergreen elm which loses much of its leaves every year. This picture was taken when it was at it fullest and heaviest. It makes a wonderful shady bower for our upper patio.

Every winter we worry about the tree limbs falling, as the one did here in 2007. It fell with a mighty crash, but miraculously did no damage to the garden. As you can see in the picture, the huge limb is resting on the steps and the retaining wall.

This year it was totally barren of leaves, and we took advantage of the situation and had it pruned drastically.

So with the heavy rain and the wind of the past few days nothing much in the garden moved!!!! Except the wind chimes hanging from that elm tree.
